Long time readers have no doubt glommed onto the fact that I'm a widget nut. Little sidebar thingies have come and gone over the years. They are mostly just junk jewelry that the blog wears for a short time before getting shoved to the back of the bathroom drawer. But I can't resist shiny geek things, so I've got a couple of new ones in the sidebar to the left.
The first little thingamabob is a link to Twitter. It's a fun little widget that helps to keep the conversation going. Well, sorta. Mostly it's a way to send a spontaneous thought or two out to the ether on the fly. I like reading the 'tweets' from invisible internet pals. An easy way to stay in touch.
The second thingy, though, is something that is heralding a paradigm shift in the way we use our phones. Remember how cool it was when you discovered you could call someone from your computer? Well, get ready for the next wave of phone cool - GrandCentral.
Cox Communications has been hinting at something similar in some of it's commercials. But Google's got it here now, on th internet, in Beta, which means if you get the invite, all its goodies are free - for the time being.Go to the website for the details.
In the meantime - check out the second widget in the sidebar. It's just one of GrandCentrals many robust features. Wanna leave a voice comment? Click the widget - enter your name and phone number and you'll get a call back in a second or two from me! If you leave the little "private" box checked, I won't see your number. It stays private. Uncheck it if you want me to have your number. .
After my message and the beep, record your message and I'll get it as a voicemail. The message can then be posted or e-mailed or saved forever (if you don't want it posted, tell me to keep it private).
So, have some fun - but not too much fun. Some of you are just plain warped. You know who you are!

On the poker front - I went to the little poker room after work today. I got the itch just around quitting time - which surprised me. It's an itch that hasn't flared since dropping three buyins right before New Years. Tonight, though, the poker dieties smiled upon me and I left with more green pieces of paper in my pocket then with what was on me when I arrived (parse that sentence, why doncha...).
I've also got a post brewing - hope it percolates. Stay tuned.
