Summer's just about done. It's whipped by but, even so, it feels like it's been a long one. Not necessarily a hot one either. In my neck of the woods, it's been a long WET one. My kitchen has slightly flooded three times and my seven year old roof has leaks. Now if it'll only stop raining, maybe I can get those issues addressed!
This summer I've seen a couple of critter doings that I have to say are an absolute first. One morning I awoke at around 3:00 AM to the sound of my television on in the living room. You betcha I was concerned, but I had a hunch which proved to be true.
I discovered my 20 pound kitty splayed out on the couch - on top of the remote. All she needed was some pork rinds and a beer. I didn't oblige.

The other night, just as I was headed to bed, I heard the tell-tale Windows boot-up tune coming from the living room. That particular lap-top, open and sitting on the coffee table, had not been on for several days. When I went to investigate, my other kitty was crouched on the coffee table next to the lap-top. No doubt, she was attempting to sneak in a session of kitty-porn... Innocent, my ass....

Then, yesterday morning, I awoke and came upon another first ever. I'm fairly used to dealing with a few bugs, spiders and other crawlies around the house - normal stuff. But never have I encountered one of these in my house:

At first I thought it was just a big worm. And then I saw a little forked-tongue flick in and out. It was about nine inches long and probably just as confused and dumbfounded as I was. How the hell it got in I will never know.

I picked it up to take it outdoors (and pictures) then dropped it and the kleenex I was using to hold it right in front of the big kitty Katy. She hadn't a clue as to what to do about the little slitherer. Before she could have a chance to figure it out, I picked it up again - it curled around my fingers as I tried to get the front door open. Failing at that, I went to the back door, opened it and tossed the critter into the bushes.
I'd like to say I was calm and collected, but nope. I was pretty astonished and a little freaked out by the visitor. A first, an absolute first. What's next? The kitties take the car for a joy ride?
