Today is Hammer Day - 2/7/2007.
Pauly has a great post on the history of the "hammer" for those of you yunguns who are in the dark as to its origins.
I had to print out a lot of paperwork today with the date on it. With each piece of paper, I secretly celebrated the hammer - no-limit poker's most powerful and dangerous hand.
When I got home and while I was changing clothes, I glanced at the clock in my bedroom - it read 7:27 (actually, it was 5:27 in real-time... don't ask, just accept it).
My last night in Tunica, while I was in the process of dropping a buy-in at a no-limit table, I sat next to a yute who kept up a constant chatter. He was one of those who was always trying to put people on hands.
"He has Ace-Queen, yeah, Ace-Queen... or Ace-King... no - Ace-Queen... he's gotta Ace for sure, but probably Ace-Queen."
"Did you have a pair? You had a pair... sixes? Pocket sixes?... I know you had a pair.... you had to have had a pair."
While we both watched one hand play out, the flop came out something like big-seven-deuce the turn was biggish and the river was another deuce. Without missing a bit, the yute uttered "Lookee there, that would've been a good one for the hammer."
I smiled to myself and resisted the temptation to impress him with my acquaintance with the christener of the hand, because, well, it would've been really gay ....
Come on over to Full Tilt and play in Al's Riverchasers tourney in honor of this great day:
