Poker 'n Gunz

Our nation's military received a fat bankroll with the eagerly awaited passage earlier today of the defense bill. Sans anti-internet gaming attachments, the bill passed the Senate unanimously and is now headed to the President for signature.

Yes, the good men and women who are protecting our freedoms and bringing democracy to the world, can breath a sigh of relief and continue to play poker in their khaki green underwear - for the time being.

Sen. Frist could attempt to re-spark his anti-internet gaming legislation during the lame-duck session in a few weeks, but it's unlikely the spark will catch. Traditionally, the lame-duck session is reserved for more pressing legislation which leaves Frist the only other option of renewing his efforts at the start of the year. At the very least, the internet-gambling and gaming lobbyists have gained some time to get their act together and work on Congress to ignore Frist, Latte and any other anti-internet gaming pols, if not to draft legislation legalizing the industry.

In related news shares in PartyGaming were up 4% yesterday and are now expected to rise over the weekend.

[[UPDATE]] Well, crap. I certainly underestimated Sen. Frist. He's now trying to get his attachments into the Port Security Bill which could get acted on today or tomorrow. Limber little weasel, ain't he?
