WSOP Okie Update & Thanks to the Bloggers

August 7, 2006 | 01:20PM  | maudie dot b - gmail d c |

[[UPDATE]]: A little over an hour into play, Brian Hansen is out at #42 - but he takes home $247,399 in prize cash for less than eleven days work. Let's see, based on an eight hour work day, eleven days straight (even though there were some "days off" in there) that equates to a little over $2,800 per hour. Nice job, Brian!

-------------------------

Congratulations to Brian Hansen of Norman, OK who'll be starting WSOP Day #6 with T-1,230,000 in chips. Fourty-five players remain. Good cards and good luck to Brian!!

More congrats to two other Okies who cashed in the WSOP Main Event - Huy Nguyen of OKC went out at #194 and Tony Lay of Moore, OK landed at #714.

There are five more events that are squeezed in during the Main Event and another Okie has cashed in at least one of them. Place #99 in Event #40 - $1K NL Hold-em went to Derek Zamora from Hugo.

You'd have to have been living in a cave somewhere not to know that the best coverage of the WSOP isn't coming from the "official" sources, but from my colleagues below - these guys and gals have worked their tails off to bring you stories that get in between the tables, so to speak, and give you not the clorox bleached, half-assed, pathetic job Card-Player has done, but the sights, sounds, smells, soaring heights, devastating lows and everything in between that the WSOP is.

I humbly bow to these people - what they do is incredibly difficult and they sacrifice much of their sanity to do it and I want to take this time to thank them (I hope I can be forgiven for those I've unintentionally but no-doubt have overlooked):
