Time for poker again

June 27, 2006 | 08:57PM  | maudie dot b - gmail d c |

It dawned on me today that a week from Thursday eve I will be airborne and on my way to Las Vegas for another gathering-o-the-bloggers... and I'm getting just a tad exicited... and a wee bit anxious. Looking over the list of attendees over at April's place, I see a lot of names of folks I have yet to meet. It's almost like going the first time - I'm looking forward to meeting a whole new batch of folk and yet I've got the ol' jitters again - you'd think this being my fourth trek to glitter city I'd have my social anxiety demons tamed, but they are insdious little bastards.

Aye me.

I watched a bit of one of the many poker shows on tv - don't remember which one, but this one had Jennifer Tilly taking down the win against some very tough competition. She played very well - she's obviously an astute student who's picked up the nuances of top tournament play in an enviably short time. Get this, though, - I actually caught myself thinking "pay attention to how she plays so you'll know how to play against her when...." You laughing? I'm laughing, no reason why you shouldn't be laughing, too.

The WSOP fever is working its way into my pours, however, and I've set a goal to earn a buy-in to the Ladies event. I've busted in the bracelet races so far (one more to go at Full Tilt before taking off to Vegas) so I thought I better get to work at the tables. I've chosen the Ladies event, by the way, because it's the only event I'll have the time to play while I'm there. I was going to be there for a little over a week, which would've given me three events to choose from (even qualifying for the seniors event) but I had to change my plans and will be leaving early to fly to Oregon for a few days.

So, the countdown has started. T-minus nine days and counting!
