Telling tales...

"I'd say your blog is officially in a slump."

I do not disagree with the above statement, offered up in a recent conversation by my little pal, Iggs. Poker Perspectives is in a slump. I am in a slump. My writing has been off stride for several months now - partly due to other things demanding my time, partly due to an absence of inspiration.

My writing muscle is in danger of atrophy for lack of exercise and I need to get back on the treadmill before I'm permantly crippled.

Oh, hell, to be excruciatingly honest, I've been utterly stifled by some nasty little demons that've been hanging around the alleys of my self esteem and beating me up for my lunch money every time I attempt a post.

It's time I send those little pricks packing.

Reading Amy Calistri's Wednesday post reminded me why I started this blog over two years ago. Like her, the blogs that keep me coming back are those that peel back the curtain on their writer - even if it's only a momentary peek, they give me insight to the person behind the words plus offer texture and context along with intrigue. I'd hoped to do that with this blog as a sort of legacy so that one day, my dear ones who I leave behind, would have more than a photograph or two when I'm gone.

I wanted to peel back the curtain.

I used writing about poker because it was something new I was learning and it gave me the seed out of which I'd hoped something wonderful could grow and flourish, perhaps like old vines on a country cottage. Somewhere along the way I lost sight of that and the blog has quieted to barely a whisper of what's happening in my world let alone what's happening with my game. Somewhere along the way I got the notion that I was unworthy.

Oy.

One need only to tell the story. Simply, tell the story. But I have a little housecleaning to do first. In my work world of a few years ago, when grant-writing season arrived, I always spent a day or so prior cleaning the office and getting things in order. The busy, almost mindless work of that cleared the runway for my grant-writing to take off.

That's what is in need here - I've got to get under the hood and tune the old girl up (the blog and myself), fix the mark-up on the blog and tweak the layout a bit.

And then, dear reader, I'll get back to telling my story.
