It starts as a dream. You could be a kid, standing at the plate which is no more than an old piece of carpet to mark the spot, but in your mind it's home plate at Yankee stadium and you've just cracked one over the outfield wall off the glove of Roger Clemens...
Or you could be stuffing paper into the toes of your sister's ballet shoes to make them fit and practicing pirouhettes behind the locked door of the bathroom, but in the mirror your view is from the stage of the Royal Ballet....
Or you could be a card player cruising the WSOP reports beginning to pour out of the Rio in Las Vegas and picturing yourself standing at the table as the last card comes out at the Main Event....
Dreams can come true and in the poker world, more so for the Average Josephine than perhaps any other arena with the capacity to launch a star. In a very few short days. I'll be in Vegas and if I can make it happen, I'll be sitting at a table attempting to play out my poker fantasy.
In the meantime, I'm collecting WSOP blogs to keep up with the day to day at the Rio - I've thrown some links up over to the left (c'mon over Bloglines readers - check 'em out). Those writers are catching the dreams of the thousands of people who've come to take their shot at living the fantasy.
I have an uphill climb to earn my shot, but with a bit of luck, a fare share of suckouts, and maybe even some decent card playing, I might just get there. I might just get to live the dream.
