Yegods, I wanted to be able to have something profound for you today, dear reader, but the "Profound Thinking" brain cells are on strike, it seems. I've marked a few milestones in the past few weeks that are just begging for reflection, but my ability to reflect is lost somewhere among the tossed and rumpled bed sheets of too many sleepless nights. I'm just too tired. Whupped. Worn out.
I marked an anniversary - April 18 was three years to the day that I made my first deposit to an online poker site - Party Poker (sans the bonus code of the diminutive one 'cause I didn't know of his existence yet). And on that anniversary date, I won my first mult-table tourney. Yeah, it took me three years to get to the top of the ladder in even one tourney (I'm no jennicide who managed to get there, and then some, in only 5 months - not to mention numerous others (see, I'm even too tired to link - but if I wasn't, I'd be linking to the likes of Double As, CJ, Joe Speaker, Bobby Bracelet, Gracie and many others))....
And today is another milestone. My dad (salesman) was 34 and my mom (aircraft engineer/housewife) was 37 when she gave birth to a 5lb 7oz baby girl about a half hour past midnight on a very stormy Sunday morning, April 29, 1951.
That baby girl was me.
I was going to throw myself out of an airplane today but circumstances put that on hold indefinitely, much to the relief of friends - who, by the way, I will be treating to dinner tonight as my gift to them for being them.
Poker 'n blogs. If not for the poker I wouldn't have started a blog, if not for the blog, I probably wouldn't have become as passionate about the game as I have. Why? Because the blog opened up a whole world of like minded folk and well, the rest is well documented. It's been life changing. I've forged some extraordinary friendships with some of you good folk out there. In three years time - I've been in the air or on the road traveling more times than I had in three times as many years previous. Vegas. Greenville. Tunica. Wichita. Vegas. Vegas.
You see, I could just wrap this whole.... "thing" ..... in some colorful paper, put a bow on it and then tear the wrapping off and be wonderfully surprised all over again. 'Cause I am, you see, wonderfully surprised that there are wonderful surprises happening and still to come - in the next 55 years.
I'm looking forward to it.
