Played a $26 bracelet race on Full Tilt tonight.
Before the break I made my first big mistake - I misplayed a KQ suited - I got cocky and thought I could steal the pot when the flop came rags - 2 suited - not my suit. I made a stab at it and got called by a big stack. The turn matched the 2 suited and instead of relinquishing and checking - I made another stab and got raised. I had to fold, but I'd nearly cut in half some careful work.
Now I was to push or fold mode. Second hand after the break - UTG raises to just a little over 2x the big blind. It's folded around to me in the small blind. I'm holding AJ-off. I know I either have to push or fold. I hate A-J - it looks like a strong hand, but its milquetoast. It's puny. It's a "so's your ol' man" on the playground who runs at the first growl. Or at least it should.
Here's why I should have folded - what could I put UTG on? First to act, early position and coming in for not quite 3x the BB. Could mean very strong with AA, KK, AK and wanting a call. Could mean not-so-strong, but with healthy over-cards or lesser pairs.
I mistakenly worried less about what he was holding and saw only the need to get some chips. I couldn't merely call, should have folded but pushed my 1.8k+ chips into the pot and got an immediate call.
He had AA. I finished 81/202.
Did I mention that UTG with those AA was Otis?
As I write this he's running somewhere around the middle of the pack with about 60 left. Hope I read good things about his finish!
