I have had better days than today. Yesterday was one of them. Yesterday "mi bruncheros" convened at my house for an easter eve repast. I cooked for my friends and enjoyed a leisurely morning engaged in good conversation and in good company. Complete with yellow marshmallow peeps and chocolate bunnies.
Today was not good. I succumbed late Saturday evening to the neverending pain in my neck and downed another muscle relaxant knowing full well it would render the next 24 hours completely useless. But I'd reached my wits end. The pain and resultant lack of good sleep of late was too much to bear.
So today was a wash, spent on the couch with the marathon Discovery Channel perfect disaster series. Then I called my Dad. My heart broke. Good news is, he is healing and should be out of the hospital this week. But I could hear in his voice the tremendous toll the hospital stay has taken . I'm having a hard time dealing with it.
I tried to play in the "Hammer Out Cancer" tourney. I was glad to see a good turnout - meaning close to $1,000 for the cause. But, of course, I really wasn't in a good frame of mind to be playing. I ended at 58th sacrificing it all at flush on the turn with my pair of nines knowing full well my opponent had the better flush.
Tomorrow will be better. For now I am clinging to the good moments, such as yesterday, and the comfort those simple moments can bring. It's the little things, you know, that can have the greatest value.
