Hi. Nice to see ya'. Don't know that I have much to offer today. But let's see what's on the burner. Got a beverage?
Am thinking about the folks in Tunica right now, as well as those up at the Borgata. I'm expecting good things from my blogger brethren - especially my horse CJ. Check out Spaceman and Pauly for updates. I'm thinking some legendary moments will once again be crafted in Tunica with the G-Vegas crew all in attendance. Looking forward to the stories...
It could have been the vent at the sports bar restaurant which had me and, especially, Iggy multi-sneezing. Or the the chips in the poker room which were so filthy they stuck together in groups of 4 making a bet quick and convenient. Or maybe it was "typhoid Courtney" the sweet (and my favorite) dealer from the Newcastle poker room I ran into - she was rheumy, congested and needed to be isolated.
It was probably the latter, if not all of the above.
Whatever the source, I've been housebound this week with a class-A bout of bronchitis. It's been 6 years since I've been this ill. Today is the first day I've been able to sit at my desk, days prior having been on the couch or in bed. I had my laptop always in reach, the cell-phone charged and the remote handy keeping me in touch with the world and the blogosphere. I haven't played poker - well, not entirely true. I gave away my remaining $6 on Full Tilt at a micro no-limit table. It's fortunate my online BR is dry or I may have donked away more than that - I'm impaired, improper brain function.... not optimum conditions for playing cards.
I finished a book - Memoirs of a Geisha. I'd seen the movie which seemed incomplete and too pat. I thought the book might offer more depth to the story - after all it was an "international best seller." Sadly, that tag no longer has the cachet it should, meaning that if something is "an international best seller" it ought be more of testament to its literary value than a testament to savvy marketing.
The author wrote a fictional story based on his well researched information of the world of the Geisha and the culture of pre-WWII Japan. This would have been a remarkable memoir as written had it been non-fiction. But as a fictional story, I felt the author missed an opportunity with his central character to weave a story with finer and more colorful threads. The book left me wanting something more, just as the movie had.
Have watched a ton of Food TV. Someone needs to drill out of Alton Brown the "uh's" - they drive me nuts "When considering the-uh proper knife for hacking up a chicken, the-uh butcher knife-uh....." Just as annoying as Rachel Raye's giggle. And who wouldn't want Paula Deen as a surrogate mom?
What? Is that a twinge of hunger I feel? My appetite may be returning at last. I think I'll go do something about it. Thanks for stopping by. On to the next blog, now. See you next time.
