Poker, she's done....

November 18, 2005 | 11:45AM  | maudie dot b - gmail d c |

I've been wrestling with an insidious bout of bad allergies with back and shoulder muscle pain thrown in to boot, so within minutes of arriving home from work Thursday, I was submerged in a tub of steaming hot water with the whirlpool jets on full. There's nothing better for what ails you - mental or physical - then a good hot, soak. I should have crawled right into bed right then... but I wanted play.

I failed to cash in a SnG, nearly bid farewell to the remainder of my tiny bankroll at Full Tilt at a no-limit cash game and had a miserable showing during the WWdn West Coast Warm Up. The 25 watt light bulb came on and I recognized I was not in prime mental or physical shape to play a good game let alone my "A" game. Yay, me. Give me a doggy biscuit.

I logged off.... I wish I could say that I did not pass go and went directly to bed for a good night's rest, but my DVR intervened. It was Thursday, after all, the big DVR night. Waiting for me was Survivor (yay Gary!), CSI (maudie hearts grissom), Alias (Sloan is bad, Sloan is good, Sloan is bad, Sloan is good, Sloan is...), The Apprentice (fire Trump and put Caroline in charge), and ER (recyled). I got through 4 out of 5 before turning it off and sending my ailing ass to bed. It was 1:30 am. On a school night. Oof. Bad Maudie.

I believe my streak of optimum play, good cards and good luck at the Maudie Sit-n-Go Challenge has come to an end. The moon is full. That has to be the reason. It would be nice, though, if the upside of variance could come in stretches as long as the downsides do... whine, I'm whining. I'll stop whining.

SnG Score: 7 cashes out of 12 attempts. 59%. I'll take it. I've enjoyed these runs, it's been a nice change from the limit grind. My tournament skill set has improved - or at least it feels like I've improved - time will tell and the big test will come December 10. In order to get some live practice in beforehand, I'm thinking I ought ot get out to the T-Bird and try the tourneys they are running now - but the structure is dismal, so I don't know if it would be worth it. I am contemplating, however, jumping into the 1/2 no-limit game there. The 3/6 limit game - which is the only limit game - is a vacuum on steroids and is withering on the vine. The last time I was there, only 2 tables were open. Aye, me.

Oy. I've rambled enough for one post. I'm mixing metaphors and my brain hurts. You are free to go. Buckle up and use your turn signal.
