Hey there, faithful reader(s). This is a quick "hump day" post...
I've booked my flights for December - I'll be in Vegas Wednesday evening and boarding the red-eye out on Sunday eve. I decided to stretch it a bit to allow for the change in sleep patterns and to get the most out of a very much needed short vacation! I told the boss today and didn't get any major objections. So, I'm thinking I might give the 11:59 pm tourney at the IP a go Wednesday night. That is if no other distraction takes my attention elsewhere....
The poker gods have been kinder to me the past couple of days. I imagine they looked down on me from high atop Mt. O-Limp-Us, *coff* took pity on my poor, frazzled, wounded game and decided to send a little manna down. It came by way of hand after hand of golden cards in a $20 SnG on Full Tilt Tuesday. It's so easy to win one of those things when the deck just keeps on hitting and hitting and hitting.... go figger.
I even got two for one on my own brand of suckout in a .10/.20 NL cash game - I had 3-4 of hearts on the button and called a min-raise from EP pre-flop, as did the BB. The three of us saw the flop. The flop was f-4-4 - and the BB pushed, EP called all-in. Well, if these guys had been Matusow and Helmuth, I would've gladly folded in order to sit back and watch the show. But that not being the case, and the fact I had them both covered, I called.
The BB had two overcards - one matching the face card on the flop, EP guy had A-4.
Oops.
But, wait, what's that I see appearing on the turn? Oh, my, could that be a itty bitty trey?
Yup.
The BB re-bought, but the EP guy left. Another guy said "nh" in the chatty thing. I said "I got lucky on that one." He said "Nothing wrong with luck."
Yup. Nothing wrong with luck at all. As long as it's going your way.
Should I have called? Well, at the penny tables, unfortunatley, I'd make that call every time. Obviously, I didn't put EP on A4 (not a hand I'd raise with UTG pre-flop). I'd put them both on 2 pair.
Now, if that had been a $10/$20 NL table, however, I would've put a lot more thought into the decision to call. Early position guy would be the one I'd be mostly worried about. He was first to act PF and raised the minimum. That could mean a huge hand or it could mean the guy likes to make biblical infants wail.
So, let's say that EP is of Helmuthian standards. His call all-in on the flop means one thing - a big pair which just matched up with the face on the flop. So, I would reluctantly fold my trips to his made boat. Fortunately, on this particular hand, lady luck smiled on me ....
I'll be forgoing Mr. Wheaton's homegame on Friday in favor of attending Dracula in which a friend is performing (if you follow the link, the fellow on the right next to the blonde in the banner is my very, very close pal/brunchero and is playing Van Helsing). I'll see ya' at Pauly's on Saturday and, of course, I'll be giving the Rini Roundup another try on Sunday.
'Til next time - keep those cards in the air!
