There's over 1400 bloggers signed up for the poker tournament today. OH geeze. A hearty congratulations to Poker Stars for what appears to be a very successful marketing campaign. They have some smart people over there. Against a field that large, I'm not overly optimistic for my chances. I've played poker tournaments with large fields before and managed to squeak into the money - but only because for most big freerolls you can get a buck or two starting at around 200th place or so. This one, the "money" begins at 30th (if I've counted the prizes correctly). And that's my goal - 30th, 'cause I want a NanoPod. I have a mini iPod (just added a new group - Over the Rhine) that isn't full yet - so why the jones for a NanoPod? I want one 'cause I'm a gadget geek. I love gadgets. I love tech. I was born out of my time. Sometimes I have fantasies that involve Leo Laporte getting creative with serial plugs .....................................................
Uh, where was I? Oh. Uh. Yeah - Poker. I had fun in the Friday WWdn (exiled) tourney. It was a bigger turnout - a hunnert and something - (thanks to the later start time). I sqeeeeeeaked into the money going out at 15th. I'd built up a nice stack for a while - even enjoying chip leader status for a very brief moment - but I got involved in some hands I shouldn't have, faced some bad luck, and soon found myself in survival mode. Heather was in good shape for a long while but then I watched her stack get decimated by Zena - the poker warrior... but it was especially pleasing to see the man with a big head - and smile - and hug back in full force and representing the poker bloggin' realm with a respectable 4th place finish - congrats!
OK - well - I'm off to start some laundry and do a little warm up before the tourney. Good luck to all and to all a good flop!
Oh - and I almost forgot. I'll be in Vegas in December.
