Lacking

October 8, 2005 | 11:57PM  | maudie dot b - gmail d c |

There's nothing like blogus interuptus to kill a stream of inspiration. Two + weeks ago I was on the cusp of a posting roll and then all the crap with the hosting service began. Now that the blog is back in working order, I'm as dry as a well in a desert mirage.

Opened up Party Poker tonight and they had new software to load. Ah-ha - two new features have been added. You can now make a sidebet on whether the flop will come all red or all black. Who's got the odds on that? The second feature is a button which will take you to a black-jack table. Maixum $100 bet and minimum of $1. Payoff is 3 to 2. Dealer must hit on a soft 17 and stand on 17 or more. Not being a blackjack player, I don't know if those parameters are good or not.

PokerStars sure has their marketing shit together. I already mentioned in a previous post their genius in getting Wil on board. His being one of the most popular blogs out there, PokerStars has a whole new audience to market to. Then the latest viral marketing campaign with the blogger freeroll got their name spread across the blogosphere. If they are as smart as I think they are, there will be a couple of more waves launched prior to the tourney.

But they, along with every online site out there, would do well to heed advice and ideas such as the Poker Prof has recently dispensed.

I sense the mercury has risen as far as it can and we will soon see the fever begin to cool. As that happens, the sites that have neglected their current customer base are going be spinning their wheels in a "too little, too late" fervor to keep them. And the sites that are still in the customer building stage need to get creative if they expect to survive.

So what's been happening with me poker-wise? I'm in a slump - both live and online. It's the kind of slump that makes me question whether I will ever get an edge. I suspect a big part of the problem is more of a bankroll problem than anything else. I'm too concerned about the money - I play scared too often. It affects my decisions at the table.

I am seriously considering supplementing at this point. I've "freerolled" for two years now, keeping the plates spinning while I've built a bankroll from a mere $15. But it's a tiny bankroll, comparatively, which doesn't allow me room to get out of the kiddie pool very often. But, then again, the snail pace at which the bankroll has grown could also mean I'm a lousy poker player...... heh.
