Felicia's Chemo Kit

April 5, 2005 | 04:07PM  | maudie dot b - gmail d c |

As most, if not all of you, are aware, our poker comrade, Felicia, will be undergoing a masectomy and chemo therapy in a couple of weeks to combat and erradicate the breast cancer she was recently diagnosed with.

In talking with her about what those of us in bloggerdom could do to help she said there were some things she could use while she is in chemo. Below is a copy of her LJ post on the matter (with her permission) with an initial list of stuff. She'll be updating the list as needed. So if you want to help, take a look at the list and see if there's someting you can provide for the Chemo Kit. And help spread the word.

Felicia' Post:

Okay, the thing is, I don't need money. Truly. I mean, everyone needs money, but I don't need any "extra" money, if that means anything. I have good insurance, I have retirement money, I'm fine.

The thing I do want and need is just a ton of leftovers. Things that you have laying around and don't want. Or maybe you don't use them, but you would be willing to part with them for a while.

Here are some things I'm thinking of:

   * mp3 player (Glenn bought me one for before/after surgery and during chemo, but probably needs the therapy, too, lol)
   * one of those little cheapo, portable DVD players
   * decent laptop (mine is a joke, this will obviously be returned to you)
   * rolling laundry cart (while I can't lift)
   * audio books (in case I can't read due to "chemo brain")
   * any kind of funky, little comfortable hats
   * one of those bathtub spa things
   * scented candles
   * meditation or relaxation cd's/tapes
   * shirts made out of that super soft brushed cotton or "indian" cotton
   * poker videos
   * comfy, big faced watch (glows in the dark would be nice)
   * comedy videos and/or cd's (stand-up)

Obviously I will be more than willing to return these more valuable items when my chemo is over, so you can get top dollar for them on ebay :)

The things not to send would be:  money, flowers, anything that is going to "die," food, candy, alcohol (Glenn made me say alcohol, lol).

Anyway, that is all I can think of for now, I'll add to the list and keep posting it at the top when I think of things.

Thanks for thinking of me, Maudie and friends!

Felicia :)
