Curses...

We interrupt this post for an important announcement:

The good folks over at Las Vegas Las Vegas have postd that Sam's Town is offering a special hotel rate for the tournament in December. It's a bargain! Get over to Call, Raise or Muck It for the details. I only wish I'd known about it sooner - but I'm already booked on a 'package' deal. That weekend is the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and, being from Oklahoma, flights out of here are filling up fast. The same goes for rooms in Las Vegas. This is a geat offer - our hosts seem to be laying down the red carpet for us - if you haven't booked your lodging, I encourage you to thank our hosts by booking your room at Sam's Town.

We now return to our regulary scheduled post.

I'm sure most, if not all, of you are familiar with the "Cashout Curse." For the uninitiated, it's the belief that after a cashout you will invariably hit a bad streak. I say pooh to that. It's not the Cashout Curse that will get you, it's the Blog About It curse that will get you.

A couple of posts ago I wrote about a nice upswing I was experiencing and even while I was writing it I knew I was creating my own doom. But, I ignored it because to believe that is just folly, silly, and insane. Yeah. Uh-huh. Okay.

I have a flaw in my game and I need to find a way to fix it. I'm okay when the decision is clear cut (duh), but I have a slight tendency to fall apart when I'm looking at borderline decisions. I make attempts at doing the math - how many outs vs. pot size, etc, but I consistently fall back on gut and I inevitably get into trouble.

I have difficulty counting outs and doing the math in short order and am realizing that to fix this, I may just have to go back to school, so to speak. It just may take doing daily math drills - 'timeses' and 'guzzintas' - and thoroughly memorizing the odds charts. This is really my curse - borderline dyslexic, right brain, and weak on short term memory. But, as I have done all my life, I must find a way around this to compensate for my lack of innate skill in those areas.

Anyone who has any tips or tricks you think might help - send them my way. I can use all the help I can get. Especially prior to the Vegas tourney. I am having a little 'performance anxiety' knowing I'll be literally facing a tough crowd and without the little graphics to tell me how much is in the pot, my stack, and everyone else's stack I may end up in the corner in last place with the Dunces hat on. For shame.

Strike that! Uh... I have, uh ... I am .. er confident my superior skills will, um, prevail - yes, that's the word - prevail, and I will give my worthy opponents a run for the money. Yes. Umm. I.. ummm.. will.
