I was at our state capitol this afternoon for a work-related function. I listened to several 'testamonials' from folks who had benefited from the services of employment and training programs available throughout the state. I was particularly moved by the story of one woman who had survived two physically and mentally abusive marriages, got away from that only to find herself essentially homeless with young ones to feed, no job, and no skills to get a job. She was able to go to school and get training through the program in her area and, ultimately, was able to get a job, buy her first new car and to become a homeowner. Kinda made the fact that I'd been moping all day about shamefully piddling away nearly $200 last night playing poker online woefully insignificant and trivial.
Maudie's going on a break for a little bit.
