Hello, again...

No-one claimed the bounty - which is a shame. Our festival this year was another excellent one. Three days of blues and jazz, 30,000 people and I was left exhausted, but satisfied. Our headliner on Saturday - Paquito D'Rivera and the United Nation Orchestra - was magical. A young harpist (yes, harpist) revolutionized our audience's (and mine) perception of a harp. Could you ever have imagined a harp could be used as a jazz instrument? His playing was pure artistry and on fire. In a previous post I talked about white moments. Saturday night, listening to this young man play, I experienced a white moment. He made me cry - it was sheer perfection. His artistry on that harp was singular. Moments like these are rare and a gift, reminding me why I do what I do. July 4th or 5th you might be able to hear some of this by streaming excerpts from the festival by going to the KGOU website.

It's been about a week since I've played any poker. I'm looking forward to getting back to the 'tables.' I'm eager to continue honing my tournament play. I'm determined to win a seat in a major tournament this year.

I was reminded as to how 'youthful' the majority of players are at the low buy-in SnG's on Party when I attempted to buy-in to a $5 SnG on Party last week when the site went down. I logged in, apparently, as it was slowly coming back up. The cash games had waiting lists 125 deep so I thought I'd try a quick SnG. The tourneys weren't coming back up as quickly. There was one $5 NL table that was not allowing the last two seats to be filled. The chat box was filled with childish prattlings and abuse. One kid was insistent that everyone leave the table so it could reset. I stayed at the table for a while as this kid berated me with zingers like "Maudie the moron," etc. Eventually I noticed on the lobby page that the tourney section wouldn't be fully operational for another hour or so, so I logged out.

This incident caused me to think that, perhaps, I credit my opponents with too much maturity. I tend to assign personalities to the pixels on the screen and have defaults which automatically give them intelligence and an age older than their actual age (being of a 'mature' age myself, this is only natural). The reminder that many of the players on Party (at least at the lower limits) are probably kids just out of high-school with an over-inflated view of their abilities may explain why I do so well at the lower buy in SnGs and the lower limits (blogger community excepted, of course). Something to think about (if I've offended any 'yutes' who may be readers of this humble blog, my apologies - but a word of caution: you want respect at the tables? Give it.)
