I just got a much needed and oh-so-satisfying shot in the arm I just won my first $30 SnG!!! Meaning it was the first time to try the $30 SnGs and I nailed it first time. I'll post the details later - think I'm going to have a beer!
Maudie's Sit-n-Go - Part I
Attempted the frequent player freeroll at Party. I had trouble getting to my seat as, apparently, several others did, too. When I finally got there, I was sitting in the small blind and the table is very slowly folding - each player timing out - so I figure I may be the only one really there so when it comes to me I raise. BB folds after timing out and I'm back to starting chip count on the button. The table was painfully tight. I didn't play very long. I went out in 867th place. Pauly and his brother did much better going out in places 145 (I think) and 92, respectively.
I threw caution to the wind and decided to go for a $30 Sit-n-Go. For thirteen hands I got nothing but trash. On the fourteenth hand in level one I got [A T] in middle positon. It's folded to me and I came in for 3x the BB. The rest of the table folds and I get my first pot of the game.
Ten hands later in level two, I'm in MP again and get [J-T], 2 limped in before me, I called and one behind me called. The flop was [ Ad, Qs, 8h ] - we all checked the flop. An [As] came on the turn. The first guy checked and the guy to my right bet the minimum of 50. I had 8 outs and odds to draw and he made it cheap, so I called. The river was the [8d] giving the board aces-up and me squat. The first guy bet out 100 and I was done with the hand. A couple of hands later I get a rush and take down 4 pots in a row with [A-T], [Q-T], [Q-5], [7-7] in the pockets and none of them getting past the flop. Each one I bet aggressivly on the flop. The table was very passive, limping in and raising the minimum. I concluded that checks equaled weakness and I then opted to exploit that as much as I could. I was second in chips and only about T300 behind the chip leader.
I sailed along quite nicely for a few hands more. I had [ Js, Ah ] in late position, one off the button, blinds at 100/200. It's folded to me and I decided to go for a steal and came in at T450. Button calls and BB calls. Not what I was counting on. Flop comes [ 7h, Qh, Qs ] - dangerous. BB bet out T570 and I fold. BB ends up taking the pot with [Kh Jh] against [Ad 8s], making a flush on the river. My A-J actually had dominated - but it was a good fold nonetheless.
However, I was now at T825 and the blinds, which were at 100/200, were going to begin to eat away my stack. Only two players had been eliminated at this point. I had nothing playable and by the time the blinds got to me we were at the next level - 150/300. I was in the BB with [ Ah, Ts ]. This was not a bad hand to have, we were down to 7 at this point. However, UTG came in for a raise, and the guy on my right re-raised. My [ Ah, Ts ] looked paltry at that point and I folded - and wisely. I would have lost had I played it. But the small blind took me to T375 and I'm looking at [8d 3d]. It's folded to me. I decide to move all-in, hoping I can successfully steal since the BB is the only other person left in the pot and has fewer chips than I do. But he calls. He gets the pot with trip sixes having called with [7d 6d]. I get T125 back and the button passes to me.
Stay tuned for Part II!
