I had a quest this evening which ended up having nothing to do with playing good poker. At $299.15 in the bankroll, I was determined to get it past $300. In fact, I did so within a couple of hands at a $25 no limit table - to about $319. But I wasn't satisfied to leave it there. Since I had just sat down, I though, shoot, let's run this baby farther up the hill.
Well, it rolled down the hill a ways. Sooo, I began table hopping at thw $1/$2 limit tables. And with a vengence. I'm fairly decent at short-handed, heads up play so I aimed my guns at new tables. Only problem was, they'd fill up pretty quickly, which cut into my action and I had to hop to another table. I'd get to within pennies of $300 and then backslide a bit. Up and back, up and back, hop, hop to another table. It was a crazy jig - certainly silly and definately not poker! But here's some highlights of some wild hands that went down:
I wasn't involved in this one at a no-limit table (thank goodness):
MP calls (0.50)
LP1 calls (0.50)
LP2 raises (1.25) to 1.25
MP calls (0.75)
LP1 calls (0.75)
Flop: 3♦ 6♦ J♦
MP bets (0.50)
LP1 calls (0.50)
LP2 calls (0.50)
Turn: 7♥
All mayhem breaks loose:
MP bets (1)
LP1 raises (2) to 2
LP2 raises (5) to 5
MP raises (7) to 8
LP1 raises ALL-IN to 18.65
LP2: your kidding
LP2: ...
LP2 calls ALL IN (13.50)
MP calls (10.65)
The pot's now $58.80 (30 cents in a sidepot).
Okay - before reading on - write down what you think these guys had at this point...............I'll wait .................................... la-la-la...................... doodeedoo.................. ok, ready for the river?
River: 6♣ -- giving us the following board:
3♦ 6♦ J♦ 7♥ 6♣
LP1 won the hand. I think I'll pull a Grubby here and pause to let you have a stab at putting these three on their hands...sorry - no prizes, just an exercise in hand reading. I'll post the results later.
Results (if you see a blue square - it's a diamond):MP: A♦ K♦ for the nut flush
LP2: 4♥ 5♥ for the nut strait
LP1: 6♠ 7♠ for a full house (second best) and the nuts for the hand -- BIG river!
I netted a huge $3 in one hand that gave me quad jacks - I haven't had quads since...well....a looonng time.
A guy tried banging me over the head with the hammer - his 7's full of 2's went down to my 8's full. Got a healthy chunk of his stack - we capped flop, turn and river.
And then this sledge hammer came down:
Board: 9 7 7 7 J
Player 1: A 6 - thought he had it with his A high.
Player 2 (big blind): 7 2 - lands quad sevens. Checked the flop. Checked/called the river. Kabing!
Eventually I made it past $300 - took me 3 frikkin' hours to gain $7.93. Silly, huh? I could have gotten there a lot faster, and then some, if I'd had the patience tonight to play a normal game. I was just feeling frisky and mischievous....but I am now officially past my break even point! Now let's see how long I can mange to stay there.........
