.....I got back into town from my 'bidness' trip early this afternoon. I was 3 days with the only technology available to me being the hotel television with intermittent reception and a block on the web tv because my agency paid for the room by check - hence no credit card and I refused to put down a $50 deposit and I don't have a laptop (long sentence, sorry). I did discover, though, during the last session at the conference today, that I have video poker on my cell-phone!
After greeting and loving on the girls (my cats, mind you), I hopped online, checked mail and zipped over to Party to play a little. I didn't realize how tired I was until I read in the chat box the PaulyMcGrupp had just won a hand. There he was next to me (we have got to stop meeting like this, people will start talking....) and I had no idea how long he'd been there! A couple of hands previously I had played an extremely bad hand and got a big bite out of my stack, so I was short and needing to make up some ground. But I was also in desparate need of a nap (geezer time)! The table was crazy and quite full land mines. I hope Mr. Pauly fared well after my departure
I came back later and played some more. I was swimming upstream, however. I made a small gain and managed to get the arrow back to an upward direction, but it was tough. First, the cards were rather cold, and second it was next to impossible to put folks on hands - it was like playing with a table full of Lane Flacks - nightmarish. But I tightened way up and was able to punish a couple of folk for coming at me with trash and expecting to run over me. Ha!
Before calling it a night, I decided to try a $10 NL Sit-n-Go. I did ok. I upped the aggressive factor which made a big difference, and I was very cautious of traps. I made a clumsy mistake in one hand by checking the turn which allowed a strait draw to make on the river. I was in it with A2 offsuit with an A on the board. I thought I might be outkicked, which is why I checked. My position hurt me on that one. If I'd been last to act, instead of first and they'd checked to me you bet I would have bet....
In a later hand, though, I took out two at once. I was 2 off the button with A ♥ 6 ♦. The flop gave me 3 hearts - 7-2-Q. The guy to my right goes all-in with 115. I have 1005, and I decide to call. I figure he's on the same flush draw or has the QQ. It gets a little complicated when the guy behind me raises all-in (380). I used up all my time contemplating this one. I concluded that he probably made the flush, but I was there with the A♥. I called.
And, kafreakin' boom, a heart on the turn yes!, and kafreaking boom again, a heart on the river YES!!. The two all-ins had T ♦ J ♥ and Q ♠ J ♠ respectively. We all made a flush, of course, but only mine counted!
I held on - grabbed some blinds along the way. I came close to falling into a trap laid by a guy behind me holding AA and slowplayed them, but I stepped cautiously and managed to avoid the trap and hold on. I ended up third and $20 (net $9) in my pocket. It was a good game - certainly not as crazy as the ring games were tonight.
Okey dokey, that's it for this round of musings. Head over to Iggy's for his Guinness soaked tome and get the details for the next WBT, May 16. And if you're up for a little competition of a different order, check out Grubby's Hand of the Week contest.
Keep those cards in the air!
