I am re-joining the blogging world. This last week has been one of intense frustration as I attempted to move from a little blogging freeware program to larger scale open-source blogging program. First it was Greymatter, which I abandoned because there were not enough "bells and whistles" for me. I then turned to Movable Type and, after 3 days, I have it up and running - albeit with some further tweaking to do.
However, all my problems with these pieces of technology pale in view of larger events of the week. I hesitate to mention it in something as trivial as a poker blog, but it's part of life, and it helps to write about it. In the space of a few days I lost 2 colleagues - one a close colleague with whom I worked in a volunteer organization I'm part of. The other was a long-time supporter of that same oraganization. These were both generous souls who left us far too early. My close colleague was the quintessential definition of a charitable being. Truly humble and understood the "larger picture." I will miss him greatly....
Okay...as hard as it may be...I am rejoining the world....big breath...and we move on...
I stopped by Planet briefly to see how the Sunday tourney was going and saw that it wasn't. Let's get this thing back on track - this is a good thing and I thoroughly enjoy the camraderie! Plus I have some $$ to win back!
I played two NL sessions last weekend which ended up being fruitful. Notice the arrow to the right is still green and pointing up. Interestingly, they both could have been disastrous. I did get lucky on a couple of questionable calls! However, in both sessions I took big hits that dropped me to about 1/4 of my buy-in - and it didn't panic me. In one of the sessions it only took one orbit to get back to even and in both, obviously, I ended way up. I've learned to keep my cool and to change gears when short-stacked. While I was fortunate to snag some great cards, I also stole my fair share of pots on my way back up!
In the second session I watched this poor guy (who I called out at one point for insulting another player's play) who never met a hand he didn't like. He wasn't overly aggressive - so I can't call him a maniac, he was just extremely loose. He managed to build a fairly healthy stack. But then he ran up against me and well, I just had to call him down. He lost a couple of big pots to me and never recovered after that. He went from a little more than 3 times the buy-in to less than half the buy-in before he left the table. The guy just didn't know how to fold a hand!
---A note on changes to the blog-----Once again I've eliminated the Forum, it was pretty useless. You will see in the menu a "Syndicate" link - so if you use a news reader, you can add Poker Perspectives to your feed.
Okey-dokey----as always....
....keep those cards in the air!
