...out of 2,000 in the $1 Beta tourney at Party this evening. I managed to last into round three. Was doing all right holding my own. Extra chips were given to players based on the number of raked hands over a period of time with the high at 3,000 and the low at 1,000. I got to start out at 3,000. Levels one and two were pretty wacky with some really loose play, as was to be expected. I stayed tight and out of people's way - stealing where I could and taking a few small pots with good cards.
In level 2, the blinds at 10/20, I've got a little less than my starting chip count of 3K and get KQ. I don't remember what position I was, but I end up seeing the flop with Bamagirl which comes down K-J-4. I bet out a pot-sized bet, she calls. Turn is a T. I bet out again. She calls. River is another 4. Now I'm suspicious so I check as does she and she flips up KJ for Ks up. I'm now down around 2,000 in chips and it never gets better after that. I threw away K-5 in the small blind only to see this board materialize - 5-5-K-K-x. The three who remained in the pot checked it to the river so I only would have gained 60 for that monster. What did the other three have? 9-4s, 9-4s, Q-8o. The Q got it.
In level three I got one of those nightmare boards. You know the kind - it's the roller coaster that goes off a cliff and never comes back around. Just about the entire table limped in. I had A2s and was about to fold - I don't like playing suits purely for the flush, and I darn near would need to flop a strait flush to make it worth while - but I decided to call. It was a healthy pot with all the limpers, and I thought if I hit the flop solid, I could wipe up. It was cheap to call, so call I did. The flop comes 2-2-Q - I get a rush and exclaim a little "yipee." I don't remember the order of the action, but I do believe I raised in there and was called. A couple of people folded. Not as many as I thought would - I expected to get heads up with someone. Instead there were 4 of us to see the turn which came a Q. Yeowch. I had a nanosacond of adrenaline rush at my 2s full, before I realized that someone else just mad a Qs full, no doubt. But I couldn't lay it down. It cost me dearly to hang on to it. Someone else made 2s full as well and stayed in while miss Bamagirl (her again) sucked us in with her Qs full. I was out a couple of hands later to guess who - Bamagirl - the hussy!
I hopped over to a $25 NL ring game and frizzled it away by playing tired and sleepy.....I just won't learn! LOL Check out Henry's latest post. Lesson's in life and poker from Dude and friends in The Big Lebowski. An excellent post. I'm so tickled to see younger folk into the Coen brothers. In fact I'm seeing a trend in the Poker blogger community - we have similar interests beyond poker. Writing is bond as is the Coen brothers, Charlie Kaufman, reading (other than poker books) and other things I'm a bit too sleepy to recount at present. This could be good fodder for a poll. And with that, 'nite all, and remember.... Keep those cards in the air!
