So I was bored a few weeks ago and was watching TV - nothing of interest to watch, no WSOP/WPT re-runs, no Vegas-Channel (read: Travel Channel) episodes...so I scanned through the line-up on the cable channel guide - and got curious about the seedier offerings in the PPV list. I thought "what the hey" and pushed the order button for an offering called 'Spice'.......$9.99 of spice.....a piece, shall we say, depicting the exploits of the....er......'Sexterminators.' Ten minutes of viewing this cinematic messterpiece, and, yawn, I was gone. Formulaic, unimaginative, and not even titillating, I turned off the tube and retired to a good book, mildly peeved that for $9.99 I didn't get my money's worth of....well....stuff.
Fast forward to bill paying time. I open the cable bill and scanned down the charges (yes, I am one of those who actually reads the bills) and began howling, laughing so hard I almost peed. There on my bill were the charges for the 2 PPVs for last month:
Spice and Finding Nemo.
Oh what a life I lead.....
On to poker & such---
I've been surfing through many of the poker blogs out there and I must say I am impressed with the number of well written, creative blogs out there. Well done! I had no idea when I began this little blog that I was in the company of such prolific, youthful talent out there - you keep me young. I will aim to live up to the standards you are setting.
I had some good sessions at Poker Stars over the weekend. I started out rough, and I was fighting off discouragement. I was forced to the micro limits due to bankroll limitations and, I tell you, I just hate busting myself to the baby tables. Now I know Iggy will vehemently argue this point, but I really hate landing on an overly fishy table. Time and again, I get overwhelmed at a table full of suck-outs and have a losing session. Perhaps that's my lack of expertise, but until I get a handle on playing a school of fish, I much prefer a fish bowl, rather than a fish pond. My best sessions have been at tables that are tight/passive in general with no more than 1 or 2 really loose nuts.
At any rate, when I gained some in the bankroll I moved back up to the $1/$2 table and did very well from then on. A total of about 5 hours of play and I'm up a little over 35 BB. A little more financial growth and I will be stepping up to the $2/$4.
I entered 2 FPP WSOP/WPT satellites and did horrible. I won't go into the gory details, except to say that in the second one, I got aggressive at the wrong time and busted out three hands into the tourney. I am determined to improve my tournament skills and so am looking forward to the Sunday night game that Felicia has been so kind to set up. It will no doubt cost me some bucks, but I expect those little "green electrons" to eventually find their way back to my pocket.
