Up 'n down......

So it's an oft told tale by many a poker player - experience an exciting rush and then, boom, tragedy. The next few times I logged into Party I would play and lose, play and lose, play and lose. It didn't take any time at all before my $50 was gone. Oh, for shame!

I went back to the drawing board - read some more and bought some more books. What was I doing wrong? I was able to deduce right off the bat that I wasn't paying attention to openers or position. I played any face, any 2 high cards, any 2 connectors, or any 2 suited from any position. This was where I needed to begin.

I left Party Poker behind and traversed over to UltimateBet - I really like the interface and the POV playing - plus I could buy in for less than $50 and there were penny games - I needed to lose as little as possible while I embarked on my poker tutorial.

While at the penny tables, I continued reading and re-reading. Something I read earlier, would gel on the re-read and I would apply it to my play. By this time my poker library grew to include Sklansky's The Theory of Poker and eventually Hellmuth's Play Poker Like the Pros

Sklansky's book really helped to enlighten me to the concept of pot odds vs. outs - which is a hard nut to crack when you are not mathematically endowed as I am not! Hellmuth's book gave me a list of opener's to stick to and characterizations for players - but that's about it.

I hacked away at the penny tables for quite a while - going up and down. At one point I had doubled my bankroll, but then I slid down again...sigh.
